Dr. Ishrat Hussain, the prime minister’s advisor, has resigned, according to reports.

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Ishrat Hussain, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Institutional Reforms and Austerity, has resigned, according to reports.

The resignation letter was sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s office. The prime, on the other hand, has not yet authorised Dr Hussain’s resignation.

Since the PTI established government in 2018, Dr Hussain has been acting as the PM’s adviser on institutional changes and austerity.

He is a Pakistani banker and economist who retired from the World Bank in 1999 after 20 years of service.

From 2008 until 2016, the economist served as dean of the Institute of Business Administration, as well as governor of the State Bank of Pakistan for seven years, from 1999 to 2006.
