LAHORE, Pakistan — On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court said it could be obliged to declare an environmental emergency and halt schools and private companies for a week.
According to facts, the LHC heard petitions on the province’s smog problem. Director PDMA briefed the court that the situation has improved in recent days and would improve further in the next week.
The LHC stated that haze has covered Lahore; yet, the court praised the work of the Lahore Traffic Police for its effective traffic control in the city.
On the other side, the provincial capital of Punjab has been named the world’s most polluted city.
The Air Quality Index data, which was issued on Wednesday, placed Lahore on the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with Karachi ranking eighth.
Meanwhile, the quantity of PM2.5 in the air in Lahore was 46.3 times higher than the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
Kot Lakhpat had the worse air quality, with an AQI of 479, followed by Bahria Orchard 407, Model Town 396, Gulberg 368, and Township Block Two at 364.
